Until his present appointment, Muhammadu Bagudu Hussaini was a Senior Lecturer and the pioneer Head of Undergraduate Insurance programme in the Department of Business Administration of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. The programme got all the necessary accreditations from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) during his tenure.
Muhammadu Bagudu Hussaini brings a rich pedigree to the Board of NICON Insurance Limited. While in the National Insurance Commission, he was credited with the design of the framework of the concept of Trust Account for Insurance Brokers when it was introduced in Nigeria’s Insurance Laws. As the Director of research he researched deeply into insurances for conflicts and crises and hopes to change the narrative in the Insurance industry by designing appropriate insurance covers that can reduce national waste and offer compensation to Nigerians embroiled in myriads of conflicts and crises in different parts of the country. This research was the basis of his Fellowship Dissertation at the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and the Fellowship was awarded to him in the year 2006. He also promoted financial inclusion by setting up and singly manning the Takaful insurance machinery in the Commission and it is now a full-fledged Unit that has seen to the establishment of Takaful Insurance Companies in Nigeria today.
A thorough, tested and disciplined Professional, Mallam, as he is fondly called by his students and colleagues in the Insurance Industry, started his Insurance career with the National Insurance Corporation of Nigeria (NICON), the present NICON Insurance Limited of which he is now the Chief Executive Officer. He later moved to Kapital Insurance Company Ltd Kano (present Unity Kapital Plc) as the Head of Technical operations. He was the Chief Executive Officer of VAL Assurance Company Ltd in Kano where he brought the company back to profitability. He was also the pioneer Chief Executive Officer at Fortune Insurance Company Ltd in Victoria Island Lagos where he established its structures, systems and processes. Before going into academics where he merged theory with practice and helped to shape a new undergraduate programme in Insurance at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Mallam Muhammadu Bagudu Hussaini was at the National Insurance Commission where he left his marks as Director of Research, Director Technical etc. He eventually rose to the position of Deputy Commissioner for Insurance Technical at which position he headed the Recapitalization Team of the Commission that brought about the robust capital levels the Insurance Industry enjoys today.
Mallam Muhammadu Bagudu Hussaini attended Magajin Rafi LEA Primary School, Sokoto and Federal Government College, Sokoto. He is a graduate of Actuarial Science from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria and also holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the same university. At the professional level, he is a Chartered Insurance Practitioner as an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London (ACII), Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (FIIN) and Fellow of the Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance London (FIIBI). He was an Independent Director at FIN Insurance Company Ltd Abuja, a Director at Davisther Insurance Brokers Lagos as well as a Member of Advisory Council of Experts (ACE) of Halal Takaful Nigeria, a subsidiary of Cornerstone Insurance Plc Lagos. He is also currently a Member of Board of Trustees of Musa Bello Learning Resource Centre Kaduna, a subsidiary of New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) Kaduna that supports professional education in Northern Nigeria and has thus far produced about one thousand qualified Professionals of Northern origin in the professions of Accounting, Insurance, Stock broking and Information Technology.
Mallam is married with children. He plays golf and enjoys nature watch.
